We
had one of Mr Clayton Naptha boats Cap name Smith
laying up at the North end of the tunnel waiting to follow the tug in
Tunnel at 8 oclock and their
was one of Emanuel Smith wide boats there to and the two flag men was at the
South end of Tunnel when we came in at 7 oclock to
block the Tunnel but what I can understand the wide boat flagman name Jones
went down to the top lock and their came two Fellows Mortons
& Clayton Steamers up the COUNTESS and the SPEEDWELL and Jones told the Steamer men to go
in the tunnel I ask him when we got out why he did not stop them and he said
that he and the night man Inns told them to go. I ask Inns and he said
that he never told them to go we heard them coming when we first started in
so we went back they got out 8.15 oclock they must
have come in Tunnel about 7.40 oclock F
